
Shrimp clothing flower (Justicia brandegeeana Wassh. & L. B. Sm.), is a perennial herb or evergreen subshrub plant of the genus Acanthaceae. Flower stems are round, slender, with many branches at the base, and the whole plant is covered with short and coarse hairs; the leaves are opposite, ovate or elliptic, with pointed apex, entire margin, light green, and short hairs on both sides; inflorescences are terminal, drooping, with brown , red, yellow-green or yellow bracts, numerous and overlapping, shaped like shrimp coats; flowers white, lip-shaped; flowering and fruiting throughout the year. Shrimp clothing flower is named because of its persistent bracts, overlapping in clusters, resembling a lobster.
The Shrimps are native to Mexico. It is cultivated in the vast areas south of the Tropic of Cancer and north of the Yangtze River in China. Currently distributed all over the world. Shrimp flower is a tropical and subtropical plant. It likes to grow in a warm, humid, shady, ventilated soil environment, and it is not resistant to drought and severe cold.
