
Mesembryanthemum cordifolium is a perennial evergreen herb belonging to the Apricot family. Stems recumbent, spreading, 30-60 cm long, branched, slightly fleshy, glabrous, with small granular protrusions. Leaves opposite, leaf blade heart-shaped ovate, flat, apex acute or blunt with protruding point, base round. Flowers single terminal or axillary, pedicel 1.2 cm long; calyx 8 mm long, lobes 4; petals reddish purple, spatulate; stamens numerous; ovary 4-loculed. Capsule fleshy, many seeds. The flowering period is July-August.
This species is native to southern Africa, is resistant to drought, and likes a sunny and ventilated environment. Avoid strong direct sunlight and high temperature and humidity, like loose and well-drained sandy loam.
