Ilex (scientific name: Ilex chinensis Sims) is a plant belonging to the Ilex family and the genus Ilex.
Evergreen tree is a kind of flowering plant, and it is also the only genus under the Ilex family. The bark is gray or light gray, with longitudinal grooves, and the branchlets are light green and glabrous. The leaves are thin leathery, long and narrow oval or lanceolate, apex acuminate, base cuneate, edge with shallow circular serrations, reddish brown and shiny after drying. Petals purplish red or lavender, recurved outwards.
The fruit is oval or nearly spherical, dark red when ripe. Holly is a subtropical tree species that likes warm climates and has certain cold tolerance. Suitable for fertile moist, well-drained acidic soil. More resistant to dampness, strong germination, and resistant to pruning. Strong resistance to carbon dioxide. It often grows in miscellaneous forests on hillsides, in evergreen broad-leaved forests and forest margins on hillsides at an altitude of 500-1000 meters.
At the same time, holly is also suitable for solitary planting on the lawn, planting in rows on both sides of gates, walls, and garden roads, or scattered on stacked stones and hills. Holly often takes old piles or suppresses growth to make them dwarf, and is used as bonsai.
